Slovakian Organ Music

Masterclass for Organ

Program

August 22, 2021 - August 26, 2021

This year’s summer school is devoted to the Slovak art of organ music — to the composers from the Baroque period all the way to modern times, to their historical instruments, as well as to the performers of this somewhat obscure art scene from Europe’s storied past. We will also commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passing of the French impressionist organist Camill Saint-Saëns (1835-1921). Participants can also bring organ pieces from other genres which they have already prepared. The course includes a lecture on the Slovak art of organ music; lessons playing multiple organs in various churches around Ljubljana; a day’s “organist excursion” both to the town of Log near Vipava and to Koper; as well as a final public performance ceremony by all the course’s participants.
